TennCare Maternal Health

Thanks to the advocacy efforts of RHA of TN members and other organizations, dental coverage is now available for pregnant and postpartum women. Starting April 1st, pregnant women on TennCare will have dental coverage.

An excerpt of the Notice of Change can be found below.

TennCare’s coverage of pregnant women currently includes approximately 60 days of postpartum coverage following the end of the pregnancy. Effective April 1, 2022, TennCare will provide 12 months of postpartum coverage following the end of pregnancy. Members impacted by this change will continue to be enrolled in managed care and will continue to receive the full TennCare benefits package during their 12 months of postpartum coverage.

Dental coverage for pregnant and postpartum women. Pregnant and postpartum women age 21 and older do not currently receive a dental benefit from TennCare. Effective April 1, 2022, TennCare will provide a dental benefits package for these members for the duration of their pregnancy and postpartum coverage.

The full Notice of Change can be found here.

It is critical that every TennCare pregnant individual update their TennCare Connect account to notify TennCare that they are pregnant. Enrollees can update TennCare Connect over the phone at 855-259-0701, online at tenncareconnect.tn.gov, or at a local Health Department.

Please visit TennCare Maternal Health website for more information.

The provider of dental care is DentaQuest, and a dental provider may be found by calling 855-418-1622 or going online to dentaquest.com/state-plans/regions/Tennessee. However, in order to access dental benefits, it is critical that TennCare is aware of a pregnancy.
